MArch 31-April 4
Dear Sunshine Families
This is our last week before spring break! We will continue learning about weather and spring flowers. We were unable to do our windy art last week so we will be doing it this week! We will also complete our cherry blossom tree on the bulletin board.
The letter for this week is 'R'. Each week we will focus on a different letter; we will practice writing the letter and talk about things that start with the letter sound. The items that are brought in will be saved for sharing; they will not be played with or used during class time.
The upcoming auction was canceled due to low interest in ticket sales. We will instead hold a silent auction to auction off the goods collected, the classroom baskets and the classroom art pieces. The silent auction will be the week of April 14-18, the week we come back from spring break. Items will be on display in the hall between Maria's office and the sanctuary.
Art: The kids will make garden paintings, windy art and letter R paintings .
Math/Science: We will experiment with ways to make wind to move objects. We will use a blow dryer and paint to make a windy painting.
Literacy: We will read Cloudette, Welcome, Spring and Sarah's Boots. We will practice writing the letter 'R'.
Extras:
We have received just about all of the birthday party basket donations. If anyone is interested in putting the basket together let me know! It's going to look great!

Dear Sunshine Families
Monday is the Hough Parade. We will release from class at 11:30 so you have time to get down to Hough, at 19th and Daniel's. They start blocking streets off early so it can be tricky to find parking. I have usually been able to find parking on Franklin behind the school or on Broadway. We do a lot of walking so I suggest strollers or wagons if you think your kids will wear out. Plan to dress in green or in your purple sunshine class tie-dye.
Auction is quickly approaching. Check out the bulletin board down the main stairs for an idea of items that will be up for grabs and then plan to buy tickets to attend this fun event! It's a great night.
Art: The kids will make rainbow paintings, button collages and spin art.
Math/Science: We will cut green bell pepper in half and make shamrock prints with them
Literacy: We will read The Little leprechaun, Corduroy and Little Yellow and Little Blue.
Extras:
We have received just about all of the birthday party basket donations. If anyone is interested in putting the basket together let me know! It's going to look great!
Just a friendly reminder; please leave all food and drinks out of the playroom. We have some kids in the school with serious food allergies and we need the playroom to be a safe place for them to play. Thanks!

Dear Sunshine Families,
Due to the threat of freezing rain Vancouver School District has called a no school day for tomorrow Monday February 10th so we will not have class either. I hope everyone has enjoyed the time at home and has stayed safe in this winter weather!
This week we will celebrate Valentine's Day on Thursday and Friday. Since we are unable to have our party on Monday we will still have each child's Valentine's Bag out and we will fill them with Valentine treats. Whatever day your child comes they can take their bag of goodies home.
Wednesday we will not be in class; we will meet at The Northwest Children's Theatre at 9:15 for our 9:45 performance of Goodnight Moon. They will begin seating us at 9:30; the show is about 1 and 1/2 hours with a short intermission. Parking is very limited so if you are able I recommend carpooling.
Art: We will make heart caterpillars.
Social/Emotional: The kids will deliver their Valentine cards to their friends and on Wed we will enjoy Goodnight Moon together.
Literacy: We will read Goodnight Moon and Clifford's Valentine
Extras:
The sunshine class is in charge of the upcoming family night, being held Feb 28th. We will be celebrating Dr. Seuss's birthday with some games, crafts and a dance party! We are looking for volunteers to help us with this night; we need some help with cupcake donations, prepping craft projects and decorations. Let me know if you can help in any way! It'll be a great way to get some volunteer hours in.
