June 8-12

Dear Sunshine Families, Last week: We had a great week in the classroom last week. We finished our ocean unit and put together a deep sea bulletin board outside the classroom. We also worked on the Sunshine Class art piece; we will be finishing that up on Monday and Tuesday. This week: Monday and Tuesday are our last days in the Sunshine Class together. We will have time to play, paint and use playdough. We will also work to wash our toys and start putting things away for the summer. It gives the kids closure to help in this process and to know that they are getting the room ready for the next group of Sunshine kids. All School Picnic: On June 10th we will meet at Felida Park for an all school picnic. We will bbq hotdogs provided by the school and will have a potluck sign up out for side dishes and drinks. Kids are welcome to bring Frisbees, bikes, and scooters (along with helmets) and we will spend our last morning together at the park! Sign up sheets will be out this week for the potluck items. Here is a link for directions to Felida park. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Felida+Park/@45.7112088,-122.711049,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x5495ac46029e3e2f:0xefa9dae1bb741a9e Summer Camps: Little Acorn runs a couple fantastic summer camps in July! This year we will have Knights and Princess’s the week of July 13-17 and Superhero’s the week of July 20-24. Come to one or come to both; it’s a great way to keep your kids busy this summer! Registration packets are available in Katie’s office! I will be here for all 3 weeks of camp and hope to see you! Word Wall: The letter this week is ‘Z’. Dear Sunshine Families, Last week: We started in on our Ocean/Beach unit. We will continue this week learning about some of the animals that live in the ocean. Last week we spent a couple days at Shumway Park; the kids had so much fun going on a walk over there and playing on the large play structure together. This week: We will continue learning about ocean creatures; we will make jelly fish and crabs and learn about the large creatures that live under the sea such as sharks, whales and octopus. We will also be working an end of the year art piece. I like to have each class make an art masterpiece that I leave in the room; it is a tradition I started 4 years ago when I moved to the Sunshine Class. We will work on this each day so every child gets a chance to be a part of this tradition. All School Picnic: Our two last days in class are June 8th and 9th. On June 10th we will meet at Felida Park for an all school picnic. I know many of you are coming back next year and the kids will be in classes together so it isn’t good bye forever! I want to take a moment and let everyone know how much it means to us that you have chosen Little Acorn and the Sunshine Class as your child’s first preschool experience. We have made so many fun memories together this year and the kids have really grown together! Thank you for all your support of our classroom and school; we wouldn’t be the great school we are without all of you awesome parents! Word Wall: The letter this week is ‘Y’. Dear Sunshine Families, Last week: We had so much fun planting! We got our corn in a bag planted as well as our green beans. We will be created a documentation piece as our beans grow. We didn’t get to plant our mini sunflowers so we will do that this week. Last week we also got caterpillars; we watched as they grew each day and even started forming chrysalis’s. This week we will move them into their butterflu enclosure and wait until they re-emerge. This week: Our focus will be on bugs! We will learn more about the lifescycle of butterflies and will compare the differences between insects with 6 legs and arachnids with 8 legs. We started assessments last week and will continur on with them this week. We love this time we get to spend one on one and in small groups with the kids. I will send the report cards home the week of May 25-29. If you have any questions feel free to email me and we can set up a time to further discuss your child’s progress. This is also a great time to discuss a classroom for your child for the 2015-2016 school year if you haven’t decided yet. Suessical Jr.: If you signed up last week we have you down for our field trip May 19th. As you probably heard the auditorium is overbooked so if you are interested in going to the later show, at 11:45 late Katie or I know and we will put you down for that. The auction on Saturday night was great! Thank you everyone for your help with the baskets and your support at the auction, it was a huge success. This week: Our schedule will return to normal and with the nice weather we will plan to be outside every day. The kids' Leo Lioni illustrations are out on the hall; they look so great! This week: This week we will read Dr. Suess. Also known as Theodore Geisel, Dr. Suess celebrated his birthday on March 2nd, so to celebrate we will have green eggs and ham in class on Monday.
