May 11-15

Dear Sunshine Families, Last week: We were very busy getting Mother’s Day gifts finished and wrapped; the kids were so excited to create a masterpiece for their moms. We also talked about bugs and checked on our caterpillars each day. Hopefully they will emerge from their cocoons this week. We also work on assessments for report cards. This week: We are going to begin a transportation unit! This class loves playing with the cars and trucks so we will study the different modes of transportation and do some fun art to go along with it! We will create some different kinds of tracks in the classroom and experiment with what cars go faster and what ones go slower. Suessical Jr.: If you signed up last week we have you down for our field trip May 19th. Please bring payment this week; it is $6 per person. We will meet at Fort Vancouver High School at 9:15; the play starts at 9:30. Volunteer Hours: Playground cleanup is our last all school volunteer opportunity. We will work on Saturday morning, May 16th to spruce up the playground. It is a fun and easy way to get your volunteer hours in. Bring your garden gloves, shovel and pruners and spend the morning working with Little Acorn teachers! Summer Camps: Little Acorn runs a couple fantastic summer camps in July! This year we will have Knights and Princess’s the week of July 13-17 and Superhero’s the week of July 20-24. Come to one or com to both; it’s a great way to keep your kids busy this summer! Registration packets are available in Katie’s office! If you would like to stay during class time to help with die cutting or laminating let me know! We will need some extra help in the coming weeks so if you are able to stay one morning let me know! Family Fun Night: Our last family fun night is next week Thursday May 21st from 5:30-7:00. Join us as we explore the worlds of Math and Science. We will have many hands on projects to do and a couple fun take home projects. Family fun nights are free and friends are welcome! Classroom Donations: We are in need of a few items. Baby wipes, Lysol wipes and hand sanitizer. Thank you for any contributions! Word Wall: The letter this week is ‘V’. Kids can bring in things that begin with the letter ‘V’.
