May 5-9

Dear Sunshine Families Summer camp registration is in full swing. We are offering 2 weeks of camp this year. Camp runs from 9:00-12:00. Each week there will be 2 options, the first week the themes offered are Dinosaurs or Disney and the second week themes are Princess and Pirates or Lego's. Each week will include outside water play (weather permitting), fun snacks and a camp keepsake! This week we will begin planting! We will plant corn in a bag, peas and green beans and sunflowers. We have been talking about what plants need to grow; water, sun, and soil. The letter for this week is 'P' for plants!. Art: Handprint flowers, water color gardens and flower prints Math/Science: As we plant our seeds and watch them grow we will work on creating documentation. The kids will have the opportunity to draw the progress of their plants as they sprout and grow. Literacy: This week we will revisit a story we read in the fall, Pumpkin Jack is a great story about the life cycle of plants. We will also read Grow, Sunflower. Extras: Playground cleanup is June 7th!!! We will be repainting the playhouse, bridge and toybox. This is a great way to complete volunteer hours. Bring your garden gloves, shovels and rakes and help us spread new gravel, pull weeds and clean up the play structures and house! As the weather gets nicer bikes will be out more often! It can be hard to know if they will be set out until we get to school and determine the weather, but if it looks like dry weather they should be out! Helmets can be brought everyday or left at school if you choose. Our in class assessments are almost finished! These will be sent home at the end of next week. We don't have conferences scheduled but if you have any questions about report cards please let me know!
