week of Spet 23-27

Dear Sunshine families,     

        Things are starting to get busy around the school! This week is picture week. Our class is scheduled on Monday at 9:30 and Tuesday at 9:35. If your child doesn't attend either of these days feel free to bring them by for individual pictures and we will do a class picture as well.

        Friday is our first fund raiser; Laps or LAPS. Laps for LAPS is a mini-walk/trike/ride-athon, the mini-course will be in the parking lot on the 33rd street side of the building. If the weather is not coopaerative we will set up a course upstairs in Jason Lee Hall, Parents are welcome to participate with children.  Children may walk, ride in a wagon or stroller or ride their own trike or scooter (just remember a helmet) each class will have a 45 minute time frame.  Each lap completed will go toward your pledges.  Our class is scheduled from 6:15-7:00.

ASQ's are being sent home this week. This is a developmental assessment tool to gage where every child is at. It helps us determine what area's to focus on in class and as a school. Please work with your child to fill it out and send it back in to me or Maria. In the coming weeks we will also begin doing in class assessments in class and will go over them during conferences in November.

 

Social/Emotional- The "All About Me" books were not quite ready to go out last week. They will go home this week. These are books that you can work on as a family and send back to school; each child will share their book at circle time. These books will stay in the classroom for the school year; the kids enjoy looking through them throughout the year.

Art- The kids will create their own chicka chicka trees and paint palm trees.

Math/Science- The kids will practice forming letter and numbers out of rolled up playdough. I have large letter and number cards they can use as guides for the fun activity.

Literacy- This week we will read; Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and Chicka Chicka 123. We will also play a letter game with the Chicka Chicka tree at circle time.

Volunteer Time- Carnival is coming up! This a great night of family fun, but we need your help to make it a success. There are many volunteer opportunity. Our class is in charge of running the dino dig. We need 2 people for each 30 minute time slot. There are also opportunities to help during the day for set up and after carnival for take down. Sign up are on Maria's door.

Extras: We have some space available on Thursdays and Fridays; if you are thinking about adding a day of preschool these days have very small class sizes. These are also the days we do a lot of our cooking projects, special in class activities and field trips. Let me or Maria know if you are interested in adding a day!
