week of Sept 16-20

Dear Sunshine families,

         This week we will talk all about me! We will weigh and measure each child this week to keep in their portfolio's. We will also make handprints and footprints and create self portraits.

This week is our first trip to Kindred. Kindred is the assisted living facility across 33rd street. We walk across as a school and join the people living there (we call them the Grandma's and Grandpa's) to sing song with them. We leave at 10:15 and it takes about 20 mins.

Social/Emotional- We will be sending "All About Me" books home this week. These are books that you can work on as a family and send back to school; each child will share their book at circle time. These books will stay in the classroom for the school year; the kids enjoy looking through them throughout the year.

Art- Using a mirror to look in the kids will have an opportunity to create self portraits. We will also create handprints and do some finger painting! On Thursday and Friday we will trace and decorate each child's body.

Math/Science- In class this week the kids will help me make a couple new batches of play-dough.

Literacy- This week we will read;

Volunteer Time- Anytime you are looking for volunteer opportunities check Maria's door. She posts current and upcoming volunteer activities and sign ups. We are accepting donations of school supplies in exchange for some of the volunteer time. I will have put 2 lists of supplies that can be donated in exchange for 15 minutes of volunteer time and 30 of volunteer time. If you have any questions let me know :) Thank you in advance for making our school great!

Extras: We have some space available on Thursdays and Fridays; if you are thinking about adding a day of preschool these days have very small class sizes. These are also the days we do a lot of our cooking projects special in class activities and field trips. Let me or Maria know if you are interested in adding a day!
