week of Sept 16-20

Dear Sunshine families,

         This week we will talk all about me! We will weigh and measure each child this week to keep in their portfolio's. We will also make handprints and footprints and create self portraits.

This week is our first trip to Kindred. Kindred is the assisted living facility across 33rd street. We walk across as a school and join the people living there (we call them the Grandma's and Grandpa's) to sing song with them. We leave at 10:15 and it takes about 20 mins.

Social/Emotional- We will be sending "All About Me" books home this week. These are books that you can work on as a family and send back to school; each child will share their book at circle time. These books will stay in the classroom for the school year; the kids enjoy looking through them throughout the year.

Art- Using a mirror to look in the kids will have an opportunity to create self portraits. We will also create handprints and do some finger painting! On Thursday and Friday we will trace and decorate each child's body.

Math/Science- In class this week the kids will help me make a couple new batches of play-dough.

Literacy- This week we will read;

Volunteer Time- Anytime you are looking for volunteer opportunities check Maria's door. She posts current and upcoming volunteer activities and sign ups. We are accepting donations of school supplies in exchange for some of the volunteer time. I will have put 2 lists of supplies that can be donated in exchange for 15 minutes of volunteer time and 30 of volunteer time. If you have any questions let me know :) Thank you in advance for making our school great!

Extras: We have some space available on Thursdays and Fridays; if you are thinking about adding a day of preschool these days have very small class sizes. These are also the days we do a lot of our cooking projects special in class activities and field trips. Let me or Maria know if you are interested in adding a day!

Week of Sept 9-13

Dear Sunshine families,

        We spend last week getting familiar with our schedule and routine, everyone did great! This week we will begin talking about friendship and how to be a good friend. We will do projects in pairs and

Social/Emotional- During table time this week the kids will pair up and do a 'you and me' comparative sheet. Each group will do two so each child can take on home.

Art- We will paint book bags on Monday and Tuesday and begin taking them home Thursday and Friday. We will also make friendship handprints.

Math/Science- On Thursday and Friday we will do our first cooking project of the year. We will be making chocolate chip cookies! We will make the cookie dough in class together and bake it in the kitchen. Each child will get one cookie to eat in class for snack and will take one home to share.

Literacy- This week we will read; Who took the cookie from the cookie jar, When the doorbell rang and Just me and my friend.

Volunteer Time- Each year we ask that families donate 2 hours of their time per child. we have many opportunities available to do this. 1 hour can be done for the classroom and 1 hour for the school. This year we are accepting donations of school supplies in exchange for some of the volunteer time.         The weather looks nice for the week which means we will be outside for playtime. The bikes will be out; children need to bring a helmet from home in order to ride bikes at school. Also; we cannot apply sun block at school so it's a good idea to do so before class starts.

June 10-14

Dear Sunshine Families,

Our last week of school is here and I can hardly believe it! We have had a great year together, the kids have grown and developed so much during the year. Katie and I would like to thank everyone for the chance to get to know you and your children; it's been amazing!

 

This week we will complete some projects we weren't able to fit in last week including the upside down painting. We will also do shaving cream on the tables and fill the sensory table with soapy water to wash the toys. Playdough will be available as well as cutting and coloring sheets.

 

On Monday and Tuesday the kids will help mix up Jell-O for snack and on Thursday and Friday we will have an ice cream sundae party!

 

Next Monday, June 17th is our Dizzy Castle field trip. Katie will meet everyone there at 9:30. I will be a few minutes late; my daughter has an appt. This will be a fun way for the kids to finish out the year together. If you haven't signed up but do want to join us please let me know.

 

Tuesday, June 18th is the All School Picnic at Felida Park. We will grill hotdogs, play on the playground and say our goodbyes. Kids can bring bikes or other things to play with in the fields.

 

We have some busy and fun days ahead! I look forward to our time together!
